Happy World Asthma Day!

World Asthma Day (WAD) is held on 7th May and is organised by Global Initiative for Asthma - GINA (ginasthma.org), a World Health Organisation founded in 1993, to raise awareness of Asthma worldwide.

The theme for ‘World Asthma Day 2024’ is “Asthma Education Empowers”.

Global Initiative for Asthma believes in empowering people with asthma with the appropriate education to manage their condition, and to help recognise when to get medical help. GINA calls upon Healthcare professionals to increase awareness of the avoidable morbidity and mortality from asthma, and the evidence about effective management of asthma, so they can provide reliable information and the most effective treatment for their patients.

Treatment for a casualty who is having an asthma attack:

1) Sit the casualty down in a comfortable position.

2) Assist with the use of their reliever inhaler.
